Cavaliers' Tristan Thompson: Won't travel to Boston

Thompson will not travel to Boston for Wednesday's game against the Celtics after suffering a thumb injury Tuesday versus Orlando, Brian Windhorst of ESPN reports.

Analysis:

Thompson suffered an unspecified thumb injury Tuesday night, and the team will hold him out to undergo what's been described as a "precautionary" MRI. X-rays on the thumb returned negative Tuesday night, which is a good sign, though it's still possible that Thompson sustained some sort of muscular/ligament damage. That would be the worst-case scenario for Cleveland, which is already starved for depth at the center position following injuries to Chris Andersen (knee) and Andrew Bogut (leg). The Cavs recalled Larry Sanders from the D-League in advance of Wednesday's game.
