Emergency braces secure Thompson's front teeth, ironman streak

Tristan Thompson's two front teeth got knocked loose by Julius Randle during the Cleveland Cavaliers' win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday, and Thompson himself was knocked from the game as a result, but the teeth ultimately stayed in his mouth, thanks to some emergency makeshift dental work by the Lakers' medical staff.

"Their team doc came in, their dentist came in and numbed it up, put it back in place, gave me the throwback braces," Thompson told reporters after the game, according to ESPN's Dave McMenamin. "Metal it up, so I'm fine."

Thompson said he'll likely have to wear the braces for two weeks, but doesn't expect to miss any time, which means his active consecutive-games-played streak should extend to a league-leading 440th contest when the Cavs visit the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday.

"He was on the bench smiling with his mouthpiece in," Cavs coach Tyronn Lue said after the game. "I don't think he feels too much pain."

Thompson hasn't missed a game since his rookie season in 2011-12, and it appears his ironman streak will remain intact. But for now, he's just glad all his enamel is in its right place.

"Two front teeth," he said. "All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth."
