Cavaliers' J.R. Smith: Modest production off bench Sunday

Smith submitted two points (1-7 FG, 0-5 3Pt), four rebounds, three assists and one steal over 27 minutes in Sunday's 125-120 win over the Lakers.

Analysis:

Even though he'll be heading back to the first unit soon according to recent reports, Smith remained on the second unit Sunday and struggled mightily with his shot. The veteran guard is being kept on the bench for the time being until fellow sharpshooter Kyle Korver returns from injury so as to have a scorer on the second unit, but he's come up short in that regard over the last two games. Smith is a combined 5-for-24 from the field and 0-for-12 from three-point range over that span, although he'd managed three straight double-digit scoring efforts coming into Sunday. The streaky efforts are nothing new for the 13-year veteran, who can go long stretches with single-digit point totals before the occasional explosive effort.
