Report: Cavs' Smith won't be disciplined for postgame scuffle vs. Heat

USA Today Sports

Cleveland Cavaliers shooting guard J.R. Smith will not be punished after engaging in a verbal disagreement with guards Rodney McGruder and Dion Waiters following Saturday's defeat to the Miami Heat, league sources tell ESPN's Dave McMenamin.

Smith needed to be held back by team personnel after taking exception to McGruder's fourth-quarter dunk over Channing Frye.

Smith has been out of the Cavaliers lineup since Dec. 20, missing the last 34 contests after undergoing surgery on his right thumb. The 31-year-old will reportedly be evaluated by the team on Monday, but will not be available for the team's rematch versus Miami.

The 6-foot-6 guard is averaging 8.6 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.2 assists on 33.7 percent shooting this season.
