Hawks' Jose Calderon: Claimed off waivers by Atlanta

Calderon was claimed off waivers by the Hawks on Saturday, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reports.

Analysis:

The veteran was let go by the Lakers last week and initially had an agreement to join the Warriors, but the team ultimately opted to go in another direction following the injury to Kevin Durant (knee). The Warriors still honored their prior agreement with Calderon and signed him for the rest of the season before immediately placing him on waivers again, and it appears he'll now have a permanent home with the Hawks, though he'll no longer be eligible for the postseason. At 35 years old, Calderon's best years are in the rear-view mirrors, but he's lauded as a strong veteran presence and is a career 41.1 percent shooter from beyond the arc. Expect Calderon to serve as the Hawks' third point guard, likely seeing most of his minutes in garbage time situations. Per Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Calderon is expected to be in uniform Sunday against the Pacers, but it's unclear if he'll see the floor.
