Nets' Andrew Nicholson: Dealt to Brooklyn on Wednesday

Nicholson, Marcus Thornton and a 2017 first-round pick were traded from the Wizards to the Nets on Wednesday in exchange for Bojan Bogdanovic and Chris McCullough, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reports.

Analysis:

The real asset in this deal for the Nets is the first-round pick, as Nicholson hasn't been much of a contributor during the 2016-17 campaign. Nicholson averaged a meager 8.3 minutes per game in 28 appearances with the Wizards and had been effectively phased out of the rotation, so by dealing him and another non-rotation player in Thornton away, Washington will have more cap space on hand to sign Otto Porter to a long-term extension in the summer. As for Nicholson, he'll head into a somewhat crowded frontcourt situation with the Nets, and may find himself behind Robin Lopez, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Trevor Booker, Justin Hamilton and Quincy Acy (ankle) on the depth chart initially. The Nets are believed to interested in trading away Lopez prior to the deadline if the right deal materializes, so that would potentially create an opening for Nicholson to claim a rotation spot.
