Evan Turner fractures hand vs. Mavericks

Kelley L Cox / USA TODAY Sports

The nightmare season continues for Portland Trail Blazers small forward Evan Turner.

Turner was diagnosed with a fracture of the third metacarpal in his right hand Tuesday against the Dallas Mavericks, the team announced. He will not return.

The beleaguered swingman suffered the injury on an innocent play when he got caught on a screen set by Harrison Barnes. Turner immediately grabbed his hand in pain, but managed to stay in the game long enough to record an assist before checking out.

Turner is averaging 9.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.4 assists in 26.3 minutes while shooting 43.3 percent from the field and 28.4 percent from deep in the first year of a lavish four-year, $70-million contract inked last summer.
