Cavaliers' J.R. Smith: Hopes to resume physical activity soon

Smith (thumb) hasn't done any cardio work since undergoing surgery in late December, but since suffering the injury, but hopes to start up physical activity following his doctor's appointment Friday, Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com reports.

Analysis:

Smith was handed down a 12-to-14-week recovery timetable following his surgery, but that timetable isn't official and could even be lengthened if his conditioning remains behind the curve once his thumb fully heals. Iman Shumpert has since taken over as the starting shooting guard in Smith's stead, with Kyle Kover serving as his main backup. DeAndre Liggins will also offer spot minutes at either wing spot.
