Agent: Rose should have sent 'simple text' to alert Knicks of absence

USA Today Sports

Derrick Rose was triumphant in his return to Madison Square Garden but the New York Knicks faithful remain confused as to his mysterious absence.

Rose disappeared without warning on Monday, causing a national uproar over the missing former MVP. The Knicks later detailed that Rose had a family matter to attend to, but that doesn't account for why he left without a notice.

Player agent B.J. Armstrong stated the obvious to Sirius XM NBA Radio - Rose should have given the Knicks a heads-up before ducking the game to return to his hometown.

"In looking back, just a simple phone call, or a simple text notifying the team to let them know what happened, and what he needed to do to take care of with his family situation, would have clearly been a thing that he needed to do," Armstrong said.

"He felt that he needed to go home, and take of a family matter that he did. He needed to go - family is first, family is very important. But the big thing that is coming from this story is that a simple text, a simple notifying someone from the Knicks to let them know what he needed to do."

Rose put the restless Garden crowd at ease with a strong showing on Thursday to help the Knicks to a 15-point win over the Chicago Bulls. Rose poured in 17 points to help New York to their second win in 11 games.

Armstrong hopes both the Knicks and Rose can start to move on.

"This is what it is. Derrick took the responsibility of what happened, moved forward, and now he's back in the fold and continuing to move forward," Armstrong said.
