Report: Sixers send Noel to D-League on rehab assignment

Nerlens Noel is on the comeback trail.

The Philadelphia 76ers sent Noel down to their D-League affiliate on a rehab assignment as he continues to recover from knee surgery, The Undefeated's Marc Spears reports.

Noel went under the knife shortly before Philadelphia's season opener to correct an inflamed plica above his left knee. He was initially expected to miss three-to-five weeks, but that timeline is now dragging into a sixth week.

More hurdles await Noel once he returns to health. He finds himself in a logjam in the frontcourt, as the 76ers have more centers than they can use. Head coach Brett Brown admitted as recently as last week that accommodating all three of Noel, Jahlil Okafor, and Joel Embiid would be difficult.

Not surprisingly, Noel continues to reportedly seek a trade from the Sixers.
