Oladipo hints frustration at Westbrook for bad D on Lakers' game-winner

It wasn't so much that the Oklahoma City Thunder lost that frustrated Victor Oladipo.

Rather, the fourth-year guard was taken aback at the poor defensive display that allowed Nick Young to drill a game-winning triple at the Staples Center Tuesday night.

"It was a little confusing. Seems like I was guarding three people that one time but it is what it is, you know what I mean? (Young) kinda came out of nowhere ... he grabbed it and shot it. Made a big shot for them," a distraught Oladipo said.

The key words in Oladipo's pained answer ("I was guarding three people") detail a defensive breakdown on the part of the Thunder. Oladipo's assignment was to cover Lou Williams - so how come he ended up closing out on Young?

The simple answer is that Russell Westbrook fell asleep. He started out the possession checking Young, but once the action unfolded on the other side of the court, Westbrook stopped defending his man and got caught ball-watching.

Young exploited this by cutting freely to the open side. Westbrook barely moved before Young caught the pass. That left an overwhelmed Oladipo to pick up Young but at that point it was too late.

Here's the play in its entirety.

In all fairness to Westbrook, he was the only reason why the Thunder were in a position to win in the first place. Westbrook exploded for 17 points in the fourth to erase the gap, but that left him too winded to remain diligent on the game-winning play.
