Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Ricky Rubio is out indefinitely after being diagnosed with a sprained right elbow, the team announced.

Injuries have riddled Rubio's young NBA career, as he's played in all 82 games just once in his first five seasons.

The 26-year-old struggled in the two games prior to the injury, averaging 4.5 points on 33 percent shooting.

Minnesota's defense could struggle mightily should he miss extended time. The Timberwolves surrendered nearly 109 points per 100 possessions when Rubio sat in 2015-16 - greater than three points more than when he was on the court.

With Rubio out for the foreseeable future, Zach LaVine, Kris Dunn, Tyus Jones, and John Lucas III are all candidates to see extended minutes at the point.
