Magic's Nikola Vucevic: Puts up double-double in season opener

Vucevic generated 17 points (7-14 FG, 3-4 FT), 14 rebounds, three assists and two steals across 36 minutes in Wednesday's 108-96 loss to the Heat.

Analysis:

With Bismack Biyombo serving as a one-game suspension to begin the season, Vucevic didn't have to look over his shoulder for a quick hook from coach Frank Vogel, and responded with an efficient double-double. Vucevic remains one of the Magic's best offensive players, but the team's stated desire to increase its athleticism and length on the front line figures to translate into a downgrade in his minutes and productivity in 2016-17. It's still expected that Vucevic will retain starting duties Friday against the Pistons, but look for him to cede more playing time to Biyombo, who may be better equipped to slow down Detroit's franchise center, Andre Drummond.
