Mavericks' Justin Anderson: Has 2017-18 option exercised

The Mavericks exercised Anderson's $1.6 million option for the 2017-18 season last week, ESPN.com's Tim MacMahon reports.

Analysis:

While Anderson's averages of 3.8 points and 2.4 rebounds in 11.8 minutes per game as a rookie didn't exactly sizzle, he's expected to take on a larger role with the second unit this season and is viewed as a potential core piece for the organization, so it's no surprise his option was exercised. The Mavericks will likely pick up his fourth-year option around this time next year before the swingman becomes a restricted free agent in the summer of 2019.
