McDermott says Wade didn't repay him for No. 3 uniform

Doug McDermott didn't get a say in the matter.

While Dwyane Wade changed franchises this summer by heading to his hometown Chicago Bulls, he wanted one thing to stay the same. The former Miami Heat star wanted to continue wearing No. 3, and that meant McDermott - who previously wore the number in Chicago - had to step aside.

The 13-year veteran essentially took it from the rosy-cheeked 24-year-old.

"He still hasn't given me anything," McDermott told ESPN's Nick Friedell Thursday. "He told me he's going to give me a lot of open shots. So that's the trade-off."

It's customary for younger players to cede jerseys to their veteran counterparts, however there's typically a more generous exchange for doing so.

McDermott, who averaged 9.4 points per game last season, will wear No. 11 going forward.
