Mavericks' Deron Williams: Still on track for training camp

Williams (sports hernia) said he still expects to be fully healthy for the start of training camp in the fall, Bobby Karalla of Mavs.com reports.

Analysis:

Williams underwent surgery to address a sports hernia about eight weeks ago, so he should soon receive full clearance from the Mavs' medical staff to resume practicing. After re-signing with the Mavs on a one-year deal earlier this offseason, Williams will open the season as the team's starting point guard, but coach Rick Carlisle could look to monitor the veteran's minutes more carefully. Williams has been bitten hard by the injury bug over each of the last three seasons, missing no fewer than 14 games in all of those years.
