Watch: Steven Adams' long hair a result of trimming his budget

Russ Isabella / USA TODAY Sports

Steven Adams started growing out his locks not for aesthetic reasons, but because he was too cheap to pay for haircuts regularly.

"Honestly, it was like a budget thing," the Oklahoma City Thunder center told a "The Crowd Goes Wild," a New Zealand sports program. "It was like 60 bucks to get haircuts and it bummed me out. Straight up, I was like, 'What the hell?' And that was every month. So I was like, that is so much money. So then I just stopped getting haircuts and stuff and it saved me a bunch of money. And now this is a thing. So I was like, cool."

Adams also provided an update on his groin (everything's a-OK down there) and shared how proud he is of his sister Valerie, who won a silver medal in women's shot put at this year's Olympics.
