Pistons' Lorenzo Brown: Could remain on roster heading into 2016-17

Coach Stan Van Gundy said Friday that Brown could remain on the roster as the Pistons' 15th man heading into the upcoming season, Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press reports. "Quite honestly, we've got Lorenzo Brown under contract and I was impressed with what he did in the Orlando [Summer League]. Impressed with his play and impressed with the improvement that he made and the focus that he had," Van Gundy said. "It's very possible that the 15 guys we have now -- including Lorenzo -- are the 15 guys we'll go into the season with."

Analysis:

Brown is under contract for $1.01 million in 2016-17, but his deal won't become fully guaranteed until January, giving the Pistons some flexibility in the event they have interest in a free agent point guard available for the veteran's minimum. In the event nobody on the open market stands out, it appears the Pistons are comfortable proceeding with Brown as their third point guard behind Reggie Jackson and Ish Smith. Brown averaged 14.2 points (on 53.1% shooting from the floor), 3.6 steals, 3.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 30.2 minutes per game across his five summer league appearances.
