Spurs' Manu Ginobili: Signed one-year deal with the Spurs

Ginobili re-signed Thursday with the Spurs on a one-year, $14 million contract, Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports reports.

Analysis:

After announcing earlier in the offseason that he would play in 2016-17, Ginobili was never expected to sign with any team other than the Spurs, but San Antonio wasn't able to retain him on the club-friendly contract it was banking on heading into free agency. The 76ers surprisingly submitted a competitive offer to Ginobili, according to Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski, forcing the Spurs to more than triple their original offer and facilitate cap space by letting go restricted free agent center Boban Marjanovic, who signed with the Pistons on a three-year, $21 million deal. Though his signing involved more drama than expected, Ginobili should still prove reliable in his usual sixth-man role during the upcoming season after averaging 9.6 points, 3.1 assists, 2.5 rebounds, 1.2 three-pointers and 1.1 steals across 19.6 minutes per game in 2015-16.
