Spurs' Pau Gasol: Officially signed with Spurs

Gasol officially signed a two-year, $30 million contract with the Spurs on Thursday.

Analysis:

Gasol's contract includes a $15.33 million player option for the 2017-18 season, which he could choose to exercise if he's able to continue to playing at a high level in his first campaign with the Spurs. The 36-year-old certainly didn't seem to be over the hill in 2015-16 with the Bulls, averaging 16.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.0 blocks in 31.8 minutes per game while earning the sixth All-Star nod of his career. With Tim Duncan deciding to retire following a Hall of Fame career, Gasol represents a worthy inheritor to the starting center spot for the Spurs. He'll likely see more games off for rest and fewer minutes this season in accordance with coach Gregg Popovich's preference to limit the wear and tear on his veterans during the regular season, but Gasol still figures to be one of the top fantasy assets at the center spot due to his strong shooting marks from the field and free-throw line and his strong contributions across multiple counting stats categories.
