Celtics' Amir Johnson: Has option picked up

The Celtics announced Thursday that Johnson's $12 million contract for the 2016-17 season would be guaranteed, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reports.

Analysis:

In his first season with the Celtics, Johnson started 76 of 79 games, finishing with averages of 7.3 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.1 blocks in 22.8 minutes per contest. It appears likely that he'll see his role decrease in 2016-17 following the offseason signing of Al Horford, who projects to start at center for the Celtics. Even with a potential move to the bench, Johnson still figures to be a regular rotation member, but will have to fend of the likes of Jonas Jerebko and Kelly Olynyk for minutes.
