Warriors introduce Durant: 'As comfortable as I've ever felt'
Kevin Durant has landed in the Bay Area.
The Golden State Warriors officially announced the signing of the six-time All-Star and four-time scoring champion on Thursday, after luring him away from the Oklahoma City Thunder earlier in the week.
"I can't believe I'm sitting next to (Kevin), to be honest," Warriors general manager Bob Myers said.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it's reportedly valued at $54.3 million over two seasons. Durant, the hottest name in free agency, expanded on his reasoning for joining Golden State after nine seasons with the Thunder.
"It's been hectic. A lot of attention comes with being in this position," Durant said. "When I met these guys, I felt as comfortable as I've ever felt. It was organic. It was authentic. It was real. It was feelings I couldn't ignore ... I feel great. I feel excited about this opportunity."
Durant spent the weekend meeting with teams before revealing his decision through The Players' Tribune on Monday, stating he's at the point in his life where he needs to evolve as a man and move out of his comfort zone.
"Until he called me and told me he was coming, I didn't think he was coming," Myers said.
The addition of Durant, who will wear No. 35 with Golden State, adds another All-NBA player to the Warriors' star-studded lineup that also includes Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson.
"I haven't made the decision yet, but he might start," head coach Steve Kerr said.
