Lakers' Jordan Clarkson: Re-signs with Lakers on four-year, $50M deal

Clarkson agreed Friday to re-sign with the Lakers on a four-year, $50 million contract, Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports reports.

Analysis:

Clarkson, a second-round pick in 2014, hit restricted free agency after outperforming his rookie deal, but was never a serious candidate to head elsewhere this offseason due to the Gilbert Arenas provision, which prevented other teams from submitting offers as lavish as the one he received from the Lakers. The 24-year-old, who averaged 15.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.1 steals per game last season, is viewed as a foundational piece in the Lakers' rebuilding effort, and should be locked into the starting shooting guard role heading into 2016-17. With Kobe Bryant now headed into retirement, Clarkson could take on an even more integral role in the Lakers' offensive attack than he did in his first two seasons in the league.
