Pelicans' Buddy Hield: Selected No. 6 overall by Pelicans

Hield was selected by the Pelicans with the sixth overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft.

Analysis:

For a team that was absolutely decimated with injuries last season, the Pelicans will be more than happy with a rookie who can simply maintain his health, although Hield plans to offer much more than that as one of the top shooters in this year's draft class. The 22-year-old averaged 25 points per game during his senior season at Oklahoma, shooting 50.1 percent from the field, 45.7 percent from beyond the arc and 88 percent from the free-throw line. Despite those impressive numbers, it's possible Hield will be coming off the bench as a rookie with Tyreke Evans and Jrue Holiday likely in line to open the season as backcourt starters, assuming soon-to-be-free agent Eric Gordon isn't re-signed. Still, Hield's three-point prowess might be enough to earn him plentiful minutes right away on the second unit.
