Report: Western Conference teams aggressively pursuing Nets' Young

The asset-poor Brooklyn Nets may have an opportunity to snag a first-round pick on draft day for the second straight year.

Several Western Conference teams are making calls about power forward Thaddeus Young, with the Nets trying to gin up a bidding war among them, sources told The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski.

A deal for Young would reportedly get the Nets - who, as it stands, won't pick until No. 55 on draft night Thursday - into the first round.

A year ago, Brooklyn wrangled an additional first-round selection by dealing center Mason Plumlee to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for the No. 23 pick, which they used to draft swingman Rondae Hollis-Jefferson.

Young's name was bandied about at this year's trade deadline, but with the Nets' front office in disarray and the buyer's market cool, he ended up staying put. The 28-year-old was a rare bright spot for the woebegone Nets this season, averaging 15.1 points, a career-high nine rebounds, and 1.5 steals, while shooting 51.4 percent from the field.
