Report: Warriors ready to go hard in pursuit of Durant
The sting of losing the NBA Finals has apparently galvanized the Golden State Warriors in their offseason pursuits. Specifically, the team intends to go all-in in an attempt to sign Kevin Durant, sources told ESPN's Marc Stein.
The idea of the Warriors pursuing the superstar this summer has been in the public domain for over a year, but it seems to have taken on added urgency in the wake of Golden State's Finals failure at the hands of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Following their Game 7 loss, Dubs majority owner Joe Lacob said the team "will be very aggressive" in the offseason.
Perhaps adding fuel to the fire is the restricted free agency status of incumbent Warriors small forward Harrison Barnes, who shot a combined 5-for-32 in the last three games of the Finals. Last month, Barnes said he can't take the Durant rumors personally.
The idea of a top-five NBA player like Durant joining a stacked Warriors lineup may evoke issues of sensory overload, but the 2014 NBA MVP has said multiple times his decision will be a basketball one, focused on winning.
