Nets' Shane Larkin: Declines player option

Larkin will opt out of his $1.5 million player option for the 2016-17 season and become an unrestricted free agent this summer, Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders reports.

Analysis:

Larkin served in a reserve role for the majority of this past season with the Nets, averaging 7.3 points, 4.4 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 1.2 steals over 22 minutes per game. With the salary cap expected to increase at the start of the new league year, Larkin will look to secure a heftier contract, though it's doubtful that any team in the league views him as more than a second- or third-string caliber point guard.
