Pacers' Solomon Hill: To become unrestricted free agent

The Pacers have decided not to exercise Hill's $2.3 million team option for the 2016-17 season, making him an unrestricted free agent this summer, Wheat Hotchkiss of Pacers.com reports.

Analysis:

On the same day the team announced coach Frank Vogel wouldn't return, President of Basketball Operations Larry Bird revealed that Hill also wouldn't be brought back. The forward started 78 games in 2014-15, but sunk back into a reduced role off the bench for much of this past season, appearing in 59 games and averaging just 4.2 points and 2.8 rebounds in 14.7 minutes. While the numbers aren't eye-popping, Hill still shot nearly 45 percent from the floor, and is a capable defender who's only 25 years old. Hill figures to fetch interest as a lower-tier free agent, as many teams likely see him as a potential rotational forward off the bench.
