Underdog Waters wants to show the world what he can do against Kim
The deck is stacked against Dominic Waters.
Fighting on short notice against top-10 welterweight Dong Hyun Kim in Kim's home country of South Korea, Waters is hoping to open some eyes at UFC Fight Night 79 on Saturday night.
"I'm ready to go," Waters told MMAFighting.com's Ariel Helwani. "I'm ready to go get this money. I'm ready to get that 50-G's wherever it comes. Submission, knockout, Fight of The Night, I'm ready to go get it.
"I'm always ready. Just being here (at Jackson-Wink MMA) learning the details, I'm going to show the world that I'm not a (sacrificial) lamb, and I'm not just accepting this for money. I'm just going out there ... I'm just going to show what I can do."
Inspired by teammate Holly Holm's shocking destruction of Ronda Rousey at UFC 193, Waters is not only motivated by the newly-minted women's bantamweight champion, he's galvanized by the cavalcade of great fighters plying their trade at Jackson-Wink.
"Man, I love what Holly did," Waters said. "I've seen her working her butt off everyday in here. That gives me so much motivation.
"It's not just Holly. Watching Carlos (Condit) in here. Watching Cowboy (Donald Cerrone) in here. Watching Diego (Sanchez). Watching all these big guys. Andrei (Arlovski), Alistair (Overeem), just everybody that's coming through here ... like it's the best gym in the world."
