'Embarrassed' Erick Silva hints that injury played a factor in loss to Neil Magny

Erick Silva's performance against Neil Magny at UFC Fight Night 74 was disappointing to say the least.

The front-running Brazilian, who generally unleashes hell during his bouts, looked gassed and mostly listless against Magny, dropping a split-decision that would have been unanimous if one of the judges wasn't completely incompetent.

Silva was clearly embarrassed with his performance, though he's hinting that an injury kept him from reaching his peak in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

"Honestly, I didn’t like my performance," Silva posted on his Instagram, as translated by MMAFighting.com's Guilherme Cruz. "I was defeated. I'm embarrassed with my performance, my body. I know I'm way more than this Erick that fought last night. My main mistake was having insisted on fighting, and put not only my head at stake but also my coaches' and doctors' who did the best they could to at least get me to the fight. It wasn't a good month for me, but no one has to know, it's no one's problem. I had a ridiculous performance and deserved to lose. I paid the price for it."

Known for engaging in spirited firefights, it's not surprising that Silva was slowed by an injury. The loss dropped his record to 6-5 in the UFC, while Magny, fresh off a loss of his own to Demian Maia, improved to 9-3 under the Zuffa umbrella.

"The only thing left for me is to guarantee that the next time I step inside that Octagon again I will be 100 percent physically, no injuries, and with a full training camp," Silva wrote. "Otherwise, I'll do like everyone does, and cancel the fight."
