Cain Velasquez's trial for attempted murder will begin Sept. 9 in Santa Clara County (California) court, Judge Elizabeth C. Petersen ruled Wednesday, according to MMA Junkie's Nolan King.

The former UFC heavyweight champion is accused of shooting at a vehicle carrying Harry Goularte and striking Goularte's stepfather, causing non-life-threatening injuries, during a high-speed chase in February 2022. Goularte is accused of molesting Velasquez's then-four-year-old son and has been charged.

Velasquez, 41, is facing one count of attempted murder and nine other counts of weapon-related charges. He was granted bail of $1 million in November 2022 after being in custody for more than eight months. The retired fighter has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

A trial readiness hearing in Velasquez's case is scheduled for June 26.
