White suggests that McGregor may not fight again for '10 months'

Conor McGregor's vacation could be longer than expected.

During an appearance on FOX Sports Live on Tuesday, UFC president Dana White speculated that the lightweight champion could remain out of action past the May 2017 date that has been previously mentioned by McGregor and White.

McGregor announced that he would be going on hiatus after becoming a dual-division champion at UFC 205 when he knocked out Eddie Alvarez to add the 155-pound crown to his collection. The timing of his break is meant to coincide with the birth of his first child, but White posited that McGregor does such a good job keeping his name in the headlines that he doesn't need to rush back into the Octagon.

"Conor is the best," White said, according to Jesse Holland of MMAMania.com. "He's got no fights, he's taking 10 months off, he's having a baby, and everybody's still talking about him. He's the best at it, nobody's better."

Should White's estimate be accurate, McGregor won't compete again until next September (referring back to Nov. 12, the date of his most recent fight). In the meantime, his status as featherweight champion has been revoked and interim titleholder Jose Aldo has been elevated to undisputed status.

Max Holloway and Anthony Pettis fight this Saturday at UFC 206 in Toronto for a new interim belt.
