At a meeting of the Nevada State Athletic Commission on Tuesday, Brock Lesnar was issued an extension on his temporary suspension stemming from a July doping violation, according to Shaun Al-Shatti of MMA Fighting.

Lesnar's camp was expected to request the extension to allow themselves more time to investigate what caused the fighter to fail both an out-of-competition and in-competition test surrounding his return at UFC 200, after a four-and-a-half year retirement.

Competing in the co-main event, Lesnar defeated Mark Hunt by unanimous decision. Lesnar was tested eight times in the month prior to the bout, though the UFC received criticism for waiving a four-month USADA testing period required for fighters coming out of retirement when Lesnar's return was announced on June 4.

Failing an appeal, Lesnar could face a two-year ban from MMA competition, the overturning of his win over Hunt to a no-contest, and the forfeiture of his UFC 200 fight purse. The NSAC revealed that his drug test samples contained estrogen blockers, which are believed to be linked to steroid cycles.

Lesnar's case will be officially revisited at a future hearing. In a recent interview, the former UFC heavyweight champion did not rule out a return to the Octagon.
