Former UFC heavyweight Shane Carwin has informed the promotion of his intentions to return to the Octagon.

Carwin (12-2) posted a message on MMA online forum "The Underground" stating that he had his "management let the UFC know I am considering a return and looking into what goes into that," according to MixedMartialArts.com.

The 41-year-old has not fought since June 2011, taking his second career loss from Junior dos Santos at UFC 131.

Carwin won the interim UFC heavyweight championship in March 2010 by defeating Frank Mir via knockout, but lost the title in his next match to Brock Lesnar that July.

There has been no word from the UFC on a potential return from Carwin.
