Herschel Walker not done with MMA, open to 'Rampage' Jackson fight

Matt Strasen / US PRESSWIRE

At 54 years young, Herschel Walker is ready to resume his MMA career.

The former Heisman trophy winner and two-time NFL Pro Bowler made a surprising jump to the cage in 2010, going 2-0 for Strikeforce before the promotion was purchased by Zuffa, LLC.

Current Bellator MMA president Scott Coker was the Strikeforce boss back then, and the two could partner up again soon.

"Scott Coker is a good friend of mine and I think when Scott is ready he'll give me a deal, and I told him I want to do something by the end of the year," Walker told TMZ Sports. "If I can't get a fight by the end of the year, I'd rather be an ambassador and start promoting the sport a little bit rather than keeping my name out there and wanting to fight."

Walker was one of the greatest college running backs of all time, capturing the Heisman trophy in 1982. He went on to play 12 seasons in the NFL before retiring in 1997.

At age 48, he decided to try his hand at MMA.

Because Walker had zero combat sports experience, his first two fights were against equally inexperienced competition. This time around, he's hoping to fight a more legitimate heavyweight.

"I want it to be a worthy opponent," Walker said. "I don't want it to be someone handpicked, some bum they found on the street that was fighting 15 years ago. I don't want it to be someone like that, I want to be someone that can keep the integrity of this sport."

Specifically asked if he would fight Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, one of Bellator 157's headliners on Friday, Walker didn't back down.

"It's possible," Walker said. "I would fight anyone."
