Drogba believes MLS has 'a lot to do' to match top European leagues

Montreal Impact forward Didier Drogba was all smiles after his team defeated bitter rival Toronto FC, scoring back-to-back goals via consecutive back-heel flicks in the second half to secure a 2-1 victory at Stade Saputo.

It was very much a game of two distinct halves, with Toronto controlling the flow and the scoreboard in the first 45 minutes before succumbing to the Impact's comeback effort in the second.

"It's not hard to make an analysis," Drogba said after the match, according to a press release. "The first half, we just weren't really in the game. In the second half, we simplified our game and we saw the difference. We were a lot more threatening. It's hard to predict that we were going to score two goals in quick succession, but it was also our overall attitude that changed in the second half."

Drogba has been an absolute force since joining Montreal at the end of the summer transfer window. He has scored 11 goals in 11 games, propelling the Impact into a third-place finish in the Eastern Conference.

Is it all just too easy for the Chelsea legend?

"The MLS is a good league, with some good teams, and you can see that there's some good football players here," he told beat reporter Nick Sabetti after the match. "But I think if this league wants to be one of the best in the world in the next few years I think there's a lot of things to improve, like the traveling for the players, and (not) playing on turf surfaces.

"If you want to compare this league to the English one, to the French, to the Spanish, to the big leagues, it has a lot to do. But I hope the league (will get better) and I think it's on the way."

Since Toronto FC finished in sixth place, these two rivals will square off once more for the playoff wild-card game in another 401 Derby match on Thursday night at Stade Saputo.
