Montreal finishes 3rd in East after Drogba-inspired win over Toronto FC

The Montreal Impact defeated bitter rivals Toronto FC 2-1 at Stade Saputo to secure a third-place finish in the Eastern Conference, with Didier Drogba playing the hero by scoring twice to bring his tally to 11 goals in 11 games.

Drogba scored in quick succession in the second half to equalize and then give the Impact a 2-1 lead, which they held onto for their final win of the season.

Toronto opened the scoring at the stroke of halftime when Sebastian Giovinco found Jozy Altidore open in the box with a cross, which Altidore headed home to give the Reds a 1-0 lead.

Drogba's double gifted Montreal both a victory and a home game in the MLS playoffs.

Conversely, Toronto FC will need to travel back to Stade Saputo to play the wild-card game in Montreal in the first round of postseason action, finishing sixth overall in the standings after the New England Revolution beat New York City FC.
