For the first time in MLB history, the previous season's World Series opponents met on Opening Day, and before the Kansas City Royals took to the field to do battle with the New York Mets at Kauffman Stadium, they had something important to take care of.
Prior to the contest, the Royals raised their 2015 World Series championship banner amidst fireworks and the booming sound of a massive crowd in Kansas City.

The Royals earned their second title in franchise history - and first since 1985 - by defeating the Mets during last season's World Series.
