Alex Gordon's offseason has been a fruitful one, as he became $72 million richer after re-signing with the Kansas City Royals in January, and now the outfielder is getting something extra special from his home state.

On his 32nd birthday, the state of Nebraska honored the Lincoln native with his own day.

Gordon, a former second-overall selection of the 2005 draft, attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln prior to being drafted and is considered one of the greatest ball players in the university's history.

Over his three years with the school, he earned numerous accolades, including the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award and Baseball America National Player of the Year in 2005, becoming the first Husker to earn national player-of-the-year honors.

Gordon, who's spent his entire career with the Royals, owns a lifetime hitting line of .269/.348/.435 with 134 home runs and 523 RBIs, and is a plus-94 in defensive runs saved.
