A familiar last name has made a return to Baltimore Orioles organization, but the person attached to it will not be the same one fans are accustomed to.

The Orioles have signed the son of former first baseman Rafael Palmeiro to a minor-league deal.

Patrick Palmeiro, 25, has the ability to play third and first base, as well as the outfield - although third is his natural position - and will supply Baltimore with additional depth.

The former 22nd-round pick of the Pittsburgh Pirates spent 2015 playing for the Sugar Land Skeeters of the Atlantic League, where he hit .256/.315/.404 with 13 home runs, 28 doubles, and 68 RBIs.

Prior to his stint in independent ball, Patrick spent three seasons in the Chicago White Sox organization. His best year with them came in 2014 when he slashed .260/.308/.457 with 10 home runs and 30 RBIs in rookie ball.

Patrick's father briefly joined him on the Skeeters, signing a three-day contract to play with his son last September.
