Royals to spread World Series celebration over 2 games

After watching the Kansas City Royals celebrate winning the World Series at Citi Field last fall, the New York Mets will have to watch two ceremonies commemorating that occasion to open the season.

The Royals will host a pair of pregame celebrations to start the season in honor of their World Series title, the team's senior vice president of business operations, Kevin Uhlich, announced Monday.

The home opener will include the unveiling of the 2015 World Series championship banner on Sunday, April 3 against the Mets, while the team will receive their World Series rings during a separate ceremony Tuesday, April 5.

"We decided to move the ring ceremony to the second game of the season so our entire fan base could feel like they are a part of it," Uhlich said in a statement. "While it's great that ESPN has selected our season opener for their first primetime telecast, only our fans in attendance would have the opportunity to witness the entire ring ceremony. By moving the ceremony to Tuesday, our partners at FOX Sports Kansas City can carry the ring presentation in its entirety for all fans to see."

The Royals won their second World Series title in franchise history in five games over the Mets last November.
