Report: Orioles agree to minor-league deal with Hideki Okajima

Benny Sieu / USA TODAY Sports

Hideki Okajima is hoping to make a triumphant return to the majors at the age of 40 after pitching the past two seasons in Japan.

The left-handed reliever has agreed to a minor-league deal with the Baltimore Orioles, according to The Baltimore Sun's Eduardo A. Encina.

Okajima's deal does not include an invite to spring training, so he'll report directly to minor-league camp.

Signed as a free agent in 2006 by the Boston Red Sox, Okajima compiled a 17-8 record with a 3.09 ERA and 1.26 WHIP over six big-league seasons before heading overseas to play for the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks.

Okajima may have trouble cracking the big-league roster this year, as Baltimore already boasts four left-handed relievers - Zach Britton, Brian Matusz, T.J. McFarland, and C.J. Riefenhauser.
