Ortiz ready to teach Ramirez how to DH

With David Ortiz's historic career coming to a close at the end of the 2016 season, the Boston Red Sox will need to find a designated hitter to follow in his foot steps.

Hanley Ramirez could fit the bill, and Ortiz is ready to offer his teammate all the insight he can to prepare him for the role.

"This year I’€™m going to talk to him about it and take him through things I normally like to do," Ortiz told Rob Bradford of WEEI.com. "In case it happens, he will be ready for it. I’€™ve got no problem showing my boy anything that I know."

Ramirez is working out at first base as he gears up to possibly play DH, and he's excited about honing his craft at a new position.

"Hell, yeah," Ramirez said about his interest in playing DH. "When you've got two things to do, play defense and offense (versus) just sitting in the dugout, it's a little different."

Ortiz is confident in Ramirez's ability to handle the transition.

"Hanley has the same personality that I have. He'€™s a lovely guy. He's a guy who is noisy. He loves his teammates. He likes to have a good time. He loves the game," Ortiz said.

"I definitely believe that he's going to be OK. He'€™s going back to the infield. All he needs to learn is how to move around the bag, which isn't anything that is impossible, and go from there."

After a hot start in which he belted 10 home runs and 22 RBIs in April, Ramirez cooled off and finished his first campaign in a Red Sox uniform with a .249/.291/.426 slash line with 19 home runs and 53 RBIs.
