Yoenis Cespedes, the top free agent left on the open market, reportedly has a five-year offer on the table from the Washington Nationals, but he may rather go back to more familiar surroundings.

Cespedes would prefer to return to the Big Apple and play for the New York Mets, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, citing two sources "with knowledge of his thinking."

Though the Mets haven't made an official offer, Buster Olney of ESPN reported Friday that the two sides are discussing a three-year deal that includes an opt-out clause after the first year.

As many as 10 teams have reportedly been in contact with representatives for the outfielder, who hit .291/.328/.542 with 35 home runs and 105 RBIs while earning 6.6 WAR split between the Mets and Detroit Tigers last season.

The slugger is believed to be seeking a six-year deal worth as much as $22 million per season, but only the Nationals seem willing to meet his demands, reportedly ready to dish out $100 million for his services.

The Chicago White Sox are also among the clubs believed to be interested in signing the 30-year-old, though they reportedly will not go beyond three years for his services either.
