Report: Former GM Amaro to become Red Sox first base coach

Former Philadelphia Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr., who was fired in September, appears to have found a new job, as the deposed executive will reportedly take over as first base coach for the Boston Red Sox, according to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe.

Amaro, 50, spent parts of eight seasons in the majors as an outfielder before joining Philadelphia's front office almost immediately after his playing career ended in 1998. Though Amaro, who took over as GM in 2008, helped the Phillies earn a World Series championship in his first season at the helm, he was widely maligned for several contracts he handed out toward the end of his tenure.

Earlier this month, the Red Sox parted ways with first base coach Arnie Beyeler, who was hired prior to the 2013 campaign.

"Yeah, I was disappointed without a doubt, but that said, I have nothing but good things to say about these guys' ownership and these guys over here," Beyeler told WEEI.com. "I've been here nine years. It’€'s been a good ride, a lot of fun, good people over here. I thank them for everything they've done. It was a great opportunity."
