Chris Young to start Game 4 of ALCS for Royals

John Rieger-USA TODAY Sports

With the trio of Yordano Ventura, Johnny Cueto, and Edinson Volquez set to split the opening eight games of the Kansas City Royals' postseason run, it will be Chris Young breaking the streak in Game 4 of the ALCS against the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday, manager Ned Yost announced.

Royals manager Ned Yost had to decide between Young and Kris Medlen for the Game 4 start, ultimately deciding on the 36-year-old veteran.

"They're both great choices, but Chris Young, his last two starts of the year were really good for us," Yost told ESPN's Doug Padilla. "We feel like he gives us a good chance to win."

Young's only appearance in the division series came in Game 1, when he replaced Ventura in the third inning against the Houston Astros. The right-hander pitched four innings, striking out seven while giving up just one run. The Royals lost that game 5-2.

Young reached the seventh inning just three times this season, but he did pitch 6 1/3 against the Minnesota Twins in his final start of the regular season on Oct. 2. He gave up one run and struck out five in the no-decision.

Blue Jays vs. Chris Young

Edwin Encarnacion and backup catcher Dioner Navarro are the only current Blue Jays to hit a home run off Young in their careers. Ben Revere and Ryan Goins are the only regulars yet to face him.
