Blue Jays' Price won't pitch until Game 1 of ALDS

The Toronto Blue Jays have shut down David Price for the rest of regular season to save him for Game 1 of their upcoming American League Division Series, manager John Gibbons told the FAN 590 on Thursday.

Price was scheduled to start Thursday, but the team opted to start Drew Hutchison instead so the 2012 Cy Young winner can start later this week. He'll throw simulated games during his time off.

The 30-year-old southpaw will finish the season with an 18-5 record and a 2.45 ERA, which currently leads the AL.

He has been especially productive since joining the Blue Jays in a trade deadline deal from the Detroit Tigers, posting a 9-1 record in 11 starts while striking out no less than six batters in each of his appearances.

Following Thursday afternoon's series finale against the Baltimore Orioles, the Blue Jays will finish the season with a three-game set against the Tampa Bay Rays. Mark Buehrle (Friday) and Marco Estrada (Saturday) will start the first two games.
