Royals send Duffy to bullpen; move Guthrie back into rotation

Bill Streicher / USA TODAY Sports

In the midst of a 3-7 stretch, the Kansas City Royals are looking for an answer that could help turns things around.

To that end, the team will move Danny Duffy to the bullpen and return Jeremy Guthrie to the starting rotation, reports MLB.com's Jeffrey Flanagan.

Duffy owns a 2-3 record with a 4.75 ERA over his last seven starts.

'I'm just happy to be able to rock that blue uniform," Duffy told reporters of the decision.

Guthrie hasn't made a start since Aug. 19.

He's tossed 15 1/3 innings out of the pen, allowing 13 hits and eight earned runs since his move from the rotation.

Flanagan also reports Kris Medlen has - for now - won the fourth spot in the Royals playoff rotation.

Medlen has pitched well for Kansas City, with a 3.92 ERA and 1.12 WHIP in 12 appearances, five of which were starts.
