Royals GM: 'I feel like we're more complete now'
Kansas City Royals general manager Dayton Moore believes his current roster is better than the one that finished one win away from winning the World Series last season.
"I feel like we're more complete now in a lot of ways," Moore told Dave Skretta of the Associated Press.
The Royals lost ace James Shields, opting to replace him with a cheaper alternative in Edinson Volquez. Moore also got what he feels are major upgrades, adding Alex Rios and Kendrys Morales for Nori Aoki and Billy Butler.
One of Moore's objectives this winter was to add more power as the Royals were the only team that failed to break the century mark in home runs.
Eric Hosmer finished fourth on the team with just nine home runs a season ago and believes adding Morales, who has hit at least 22 home runs in two of the last three seasons, will be a major addition to the lineup.
"We got the pitching and speed and defense, but to put two power bats like that in our lineup, especially Kendrys from both sides, I think that will help us out, especially in late innings, when you want to turn to the tough righty or lefty in the bullpen," Hosmer said. "When he's in the middle of the order right there, that's a big help for us."
