Report: Angels, Street to begin negotiating extension next week

Matt Kartozian / USA TODAY Sports

Huston Street wants to be the closer for the Los Angeles Angels for years to come.

The right-hander, who serves as his own agent, is expected to begin extension talks with the club next week, reports MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez.

The Angels exercised their $7-million option on Street for the 2015 campaign, but he's set to become a free agent at season's end.

The 31-year-old is seeking a contract similar to the deals inked over the winter by relievers David Robertson and Andrew Miller, which suggests a four-year pact in the $40-million range would do the trick.

Street converted 41 of his 44 save attempts last season and was the proud owner of a 1.37 ERA and 0.94 WHIP.
